Dr.
Mark Shirilau is a nationally known expert in load research, utility
demand-side management, energy conservation programs, and evaluation, measurement
and verification (EM&V). He has led the technical team of Aloha
Systems, Inc. for 22 years. Prior to that, Mark worked for
Southern California Edison in engineering, research project management,
and supervisory positions for the energy conservation and
renewable/alternative energy programs. He started his Edison
career working on the large wind and solar projects that led the world
technology at their time. He then served as
program director for Edison and EPRI’s comprehensive $4,000,000
Residential Energy Use Comparison Study in the 1980’s.
Mark
received his Ph.D. in electric power systems engineering and master’s
degrees in engineering, business administration, and religion. He
is a registered professional engineer in California, New York, and
Texas, and is a licensed general, electrical, and solar contractor in
California. He consults with the Contractor State License Board,
helping write the licensing examinations and is the author of a number
of technical papers on residential, commercial, and industrial energy
use as well as measurement and verification (M&V) strategies and
appliance efficiency. He is also author of Power 101: A Basic
Introduction to Electric Utility Power, a book designed to help the
average energy consumer understand the electric system and marketplace.
Mark has taught a number of college classes ranging from basic
electricity in junior college to master's level courses in power systems
and engineering management.
Mark
was a founding board member of the Association of Energy Services
Professionals (AESP) and is a member of IEEE, ASHRAE, and several other
professional organizations. He has served on the boards of
directors of a number of business and nonprofit organizations.

Mario provides on-site
supervision and management of construction and remodel projects and
assists with on-site surveys for energy efficiency and demand response.
He has surveyed a variety of institutional, industrial, and commercial
facilities including aerospace production, pharmaceutical manufacturing,
cabinet making, and chemical processing plants, warehouses, high-rise
office buildings, military and hospital facilities, courthouses, fire
stations, schools, colleges, and other local government facilities.
His work also includes assisting with metering and monitoring projects
including meter installation, data collection, and tabulation.
Mario's background includes construction, light industry, and small
business administration. Prior to joining Aloha Systems he worked as
an inspector for a roofing quality assurance consultant. The
majority of his career has been in printing, where he worked in a large
print shop as well as assisting will all aspects of the operation of
Cerritos Printing, which was owned by his family.

Brenda is in charge of
development of the
Desert Hot Springs
photovoltaic plant as well as business development and
marketing of electric vehicle infrastructure enhancements and creating new ways
to support the company's endeavors with "green" energy.
Brenda
has 20+ years' experience in residential and commercial real
estate development, construction, financing, sales, and
project management. She has managed, built, and designed
control rooms
and executive
offices for a local Native American tribe.

Jeffery Shirilau |

Jeffery Michael Shirilau - Founder
of the Company
Jeffery
Lau Shirilau was of Native Hawaiian, Chinese, and European descent.
He was born in Honolulu on August 30, 1953. He was educated in
computer programming and was a licensed general contractor. In 1987
Jeffery formed Aloha Systems to bring together the technical and
construction sides of the energy conservation field and began the
company’s work by developing a program to automatically download and
analyze interval end-use meter data for Southern California Edison.
Jeffery’s career also included data processing management and work for
the U.S. Postal Service. He was a talented musician and an ordained
deacon of the Ecumenical Catholic Church. He died in his home in
Monte Rio, California, on August 9, 1993, and was buried in Kaneohe,
Hawaii, on his 40th birthday. |
