Education and Training

The ever-advancing sophistication of our scientific society continually increases the need for basic understanding of electricity for utility employees and major customers alike. In a deregulated industry, customers will be asked to make complex decisions about electric service. Knowledge about the product will be essential for them to make a wise choice, and similar knowledge will be required of all utility personnel with customer contact - from customer service telephone reps to field staff.

Aloha's principals are expert instructors at all levels - from the very basics to advanced engineering concepts. Dr. Mark Shirilau is the author of Power 101: A Basic Introduction to Electric Utility Systems (Healing Spirit Press, 1997), a book designed to help the average residential or small commercial consumer understand electricity and how it is used, delivered, and billed.

We also have available a number of courses designed to help non-technical people understand electricity and the power system. Using simple analogies, we easily convey concepts such as voltage, current, power, energy, and even power factor.
